"Regis Jesuit running back Jordan Jungers (20) is tackled by a slew of Valor Christian defenders during the second half at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Friday, Sept. 2, 2011. Valor defeated Regis 20-16."
Friday Night Lights opened the season with one of the most anticipated games of the whole year, 5A #2 Regis v 4A #1 Valor. There was a huge crowd and the Regis Rowdies (read: male cheerleaders?) war out in full force.
Unfortunately for myself and the Raiders, it wasn't the result we were looking for. Regis was without their senior quarterback who was out with an injury and that greatly affected the passing game. For most of the night they relied on the ever-steady senior running back Jordan Jungers but he couldn't do it all on his own.
I think the above photo sums up Regis' night, struggles.
The 90+ minute lightning delay didn't seem to help things either but the resulting storm produced a pretty epic Colorado sunset photo.
Like a few of the top college teams did this weekend, Regis got their toughest non-conference game out of the way from the start so I'm sure they'll be back to their winning ways soon enough.
