Peyton

Monday morning I joined the media circus that was the Peyton Manning show for Getty Images.

The team held their first mini camp and all eyes were on the new quarterback. In what little I saw, he looked good. His passes were crisp and physically he looked up to par.

After moving 20 or so photos from our allotted 20 minutes I went back out to the field to wait for the end of practice and try to make a different frame. As Peyton made his way over to talk with local and national media, I clicked off four frames, the above being my favorite. I'm not sure why I converted it from color, but I like it.

It sort of reminds me of a photo I shot at his introductory press conference that SI picked up that week.

I think it's a fitting end to seven straight days on assignment.

NBA Playoffs | Clippers at Spurs

The Spurs are damn good and after seeing them in person on Tuesday I can vouch for the depth and talent that they have. I flew down to San Antonio to cover the game for Getty Images and was glad to do so since playoff basketball is in my top three favorite things to shoot...along with football and gymnastics.

The game itself wasn't all that exciting because the Spurs displayed true domination. Every time the Clippers even tried to get back into the game, one of the Spurs would hit a three.

It was a quick trip that only lasted 22 hours but I got to see some familiar faces, meet a few new ones and have a couple of great meals. Try the branzino at Lüke downtown, trust me.

I hope I make it back soon to see Tim Duncan and crew continue their domination.

Denver sports photographers | NBA playoffs

A sick (literally) Kobe and crew came back to Denver for game six and the hometown boys put on a show. Ty Lawson nearly ended things straight from the start with four quick three's and finished the night with 32 points.

Combine that with a top notch performance from Cory Brewer off the bench and the Nuggets were too much to handle. Game seven will have to decide it.

Despite it being just my fourth basketball game of the year and first NBA game of the year I still chose to shoot on the strobes. Shooting one frame every 3-4 seconds really makes me think my way through things and wait for the moment. I genuinely enjoy that challenge.

9 innings, 30 days

The first month of the season is complete and with that I wanted to share a few more of my favorites along the way.

I've tried to look beyond the obvious more often by looking through the lens rather than the back of the camera. Sometimes I think digital has made us too eager to see what we've shot rather than to see an even better moment unfold.

It's tougher than it sounds, trust me.

Patience, clean backgrounds and good light are the three things that help make the best baseball images, in my opinion. Finding all three at once is the challenge.

Denver sports photographer | Denver Outlaws

It has been a year since I last shot lacrosse so it was good to get out Saturday night for the Outlaws game.

They quickly ran off and hid with the lead, dominating and undermatched Hamilton Nationals squad. Despite slowing down in the second half they still came away with a convincing 15-6 victory.

All things considered I thought there was some decent action to be had. Lacrosse is always tricky because the helmets obstruct your view of the players faces and the sticks often find themselves outside of your frame.

To try something different I shot a decent amount of the game from nearly directly behind the goal. With just the advertising boards for protection I really had to make sure not to get hit with that hard rubber ball that reaches speeds excess of 100mph. It's risk versus reward and I think it paid off.

More images from the game are on Getty's website.
