Estes Park wedding photos | Krista & Matt

The thing I cherish the most after shooting a wedding, even more so than the pictures is the relationship that I have with the bride and groom. I definitely feel that I can call Krista and Matt friends. It was a pleasure for them to allow me and  Travis Haughton to truly document the day as photojournalists. Travis is one of my closest friends and drove more than 900 miles to shoot this wedding with me, when you have clients and friends like that it's hard to ask for much more.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park is full of character and history. It's one of Colorado's best wedding venues for sure.

Krista's mother and sister both talked about how emotional their family can be during their toasts, and they couldn't have been more right. The day was overflowing with emotion from start to finish. All this emotion made for the moments that photojournalists live for.

I can't wait to share the rest of the images with them and their family soon!

Rockies walk-off

"Todd Helton #17 of the Colorado Rockies celebrates as he rounds the bases after hitting a walk off two-run home run off of J.J. Putz #40 of the Arizona Diamondbacks to win 8-7 at Coors Field on April 14, 2012 in Denver, Colorado."
"Chris Nelson #10 of the Colorado Rockies loses control of his bat as he strikes out against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field on April 14, 2012 in Denver, Colorado. The Rockies defeated the Diamondbacks 8-7."

"Baseball is a game of inches."

I used to hear my high school coach preach that almost every day and that theory came to life Saturday night.

Todd Helton, the elder statesman of the Rockies, took the plate in the ninth inning as the rain continued to drench the field. I had a feeling that this could be one of those moments so I chose to shoot his at-bat wide to give it a sense of place and thankfully Todd didn't let me down.

He hit quite possibly the highest home run I've ever seen. The ball seemed to be in the air forever and just as he crossed first base it snuck just inside the foul pole and barely over the right field wall.

The few diehard fans that remained, drenched and cold, raised their arms just as Todd did and the body language of all the other figures in the photo help tell the story.

Baseball is back

"Shortstop Brandon Crawford #35 of the San Francisco Giants makes a diving stop but is unable to make the throw in time to get Michael Cuddyer of the Colorado Rockies at first base at Coors Field on April 12, 2012 in Denver, Colorado. The Giants defeated the Rockies 4-2."

It's that time of the year again and I'm so glad. Before anything else, baseball was and always will be my first love.

For a good 10 years of my life Spring always meant knee high socks, upredictable weather, the smell of new baseballs and the sting in the palm of my hand during those first few days of practice.

I miss those days emmensely and while things have changed, I'm glad I'm still able to be apart of it all by recording history of those call it their day job. They swing a bat for a living, and I push a button.

If you ask me, you can't go wrong either way.

The above is my favorite from my first game of the season and while game action is a dime a dozen, I'll take it.

NCAA Women's Final Four

The last couple of days covering the Women's Final Four was a blast. Access was solid, the jube was great and my remotes produced a few nice images.

The crazy thing is that I haven't covered basketball since NBA playoffs last April. It's probably my second favorite sport to shoot next to football so I was glad to get this assignment.

In the process, Baylor made history becoming the first ever NCAA basketball team, men's or women's, to go 40-0. Stanford did well to contain tournament MOP Brittney Griner in the semis but she dominated the championship game. The above photo of her celebrating after scoring a basket in the championship is easily my favorite from the weekend, as it tells the story of the game and her team's season.

Griner was in beast mode all tournament and unfortunately for every other team in the country she'll be back for her senior season this fall.

Repeat anyone?
