The touchdown was called back because of a penalty but Regis scored on the next play. Regis Jesuit defeated Cherokee Trail 21-20."
"Regis Jesuit fans cheer on the Raiders during the fourth quarter against Cherokee Trail in the CHSAA State semi-finals at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010. Regis Jesuit defeated Cherokee Trail 21-20."
"The Regis Jesuit Raiders celebrate their 21-20 victory over Cherokee Trail during the CHSAA State semi-finals at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010. Regis advances to battle perennial powerhouse Mullen in the State Championship next week."
After a strong defensive stop secured the game for Regis, the student body began to chant,
"We want Mullen." Saturday, they'll get their shot.
The matchup everyone has been dying to see, No. 1 Mullen and No. 2 Regis Jesuit will do battle at Invesco Field at Mile High with the state title on the line. Considering how the Broncos have been playing it might be the most exciting game played at the stadium all year. Both schools private, unbeaten are sure to draw a huge crowd.
Despite the close score, Regis held control from the beginning and never relinquished the lead. A strong defensive effort that was emphasized by Coach Nolan on the bus ride home from Grand Junction last week proved the be the key ingredient in the second half. They needed it too as the offense failed to score thanks to a few potentially costly, yet eventually harmless, turnovers.
They won't be so fortunate against Mullen.
The Mustangs will be favored but as my father has often said,
"On any given day, if you don't come to play, you'll get your lunch brought to ya."
I'm excited.
