"Luke Johnson stands outside of Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colo., Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Johnson, who is in his third year of medical school at the University of Colorado, is currently in outpatient rotations."
Personal work is often the most important work that I can do. Executing an image that came from my head and not an editor or client is rewarding and essential to keeping the creative juices flowing.
Tonight I finally got around to making an image that I've wanted to do since the new Children's Hospital was built a little more than a mile from my house. I love the architecture and large exterior windows that emit lots of the light from within.
The tough part was keeping the six foot softbox from flying away like a kite in the gale force winds. Having an assistant on site and a subject with short hair definitely made a huge difference in the success of the shoot.
You might remember that I photographed Luke and his fiancée a few weeks ago for their engagement session during which I found out that Luke is doing his rotations at the hospital.
I also made a shocking frame that I'm on the fence about. Any thoughts?
Regardless, I'm glad I got out and made a frame for myself.
