"University of Denver women's tennis star Ute Schnoy poses for a portrait at Stapelton Tennis Pavilion on the DU campus in Denver, Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Schnoy will compete in both singles and doubles in the upcoming 2010 NCAA Tennis Championships in Athens, GA."
The little things make all the difference.
I was at DU on Tuesday to shoot a quick team photo of the women's tennis team for a poster that I created for them. The girls wanted to make something nice that they could give to their coaches as a gift and I was happy to help out. Ute and I are good friends and she's been helping me with my tennis game a LOT so this was the least that I could do.
After we finished with the team photo I turned my lights a bit and took 90 seconds to make a few quick portraits of Ute. The wind started to create major problems for my umbrellas so I went straight to bare bulbs, hard light. The images were still pretty bland so I broke out a circular polarizing filter to really darken the sky and change the mood. I've had that little tool in my bag forever but I bet this was the second time I've ever used it.
As you can see in the image above it really changed the mood. The dark navy blue sky is something that I haven't really seen much of which is why I like the frame.
