Alpha Phi overhead

A change of pace, something new, is always great for creative thinking and today I accomplished just that. It's not very often that I get the chance to photograph 10 people at once so when a friend from high school contacted me for this assignment I was happy to work with Lauren and nine of her friends. Let's be honest here, I'm probably never going to turn down an assignment to shoot 10 good looking girls.

I met up with the group of CU-Boulder alumni, most of whom were also Alphi Phi sorority sisters, downtown this afternoon sharing some laughs and making a few pictures along the way. I've made portraits of groups of this size before but each time, like today, I learn something new. Composing a frame that's both flattering and interesting can be a challenge with 10 people but working with open-minded people really makes things much easier.

The best part about today was that there weren't any rules. We made a few "safe" images like this one and also pushed the envelope a bit here.

The above image is my favorite because it's graphic, an aesthetic I often find in my work. Although I'm still very early in my career I'm beginning to develop a more consistent style that I feel I can call my own and for if nothing else, today was a success.
