Unexpected

"Michael Sasser pauses while climbing the narrow confines of a spiral staircase inside Shove Chapel on the campus of Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Monday, Feb. 22, 2010."

If you look hard enough, sometimes you'll find something that you weren't originally after, that you never knew was there.

Wednesday afternoon Mike and I ventured down to Colorado Springs for a get together with some other photographers. While we were there we stopped by the Shove Chapel to scout it for a potential wedding client.

The bride was warned that it was an extremely dark venue and it was (1/30th f/2.8 at 6400ISO for you photo geeks reading). I assured her that we had the gear capable of working in such an environment but I thought that by shooting a few images I could provide her with something tangible. I can talk gear and technical data all day but clients just care about pictures and I understand that.

In the midst of wandering around we found an open door that led to a really cool spiral staircase. It didn't take long for us to decide to see where it would lead and in the process of climbing up the tight spaces I managed to make the image above. Sure, it's nothing special but it's an image I didn't expected to take and for that reason alone I'm happy to come away with it.
