The Avalanche made it interesting but in the end gave everyone at the Pepsi Center what they wanted to see, a win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.
My assignment had me following Patrick Roy and the rest of the 1995-96 Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup Championship team during a pre-game ceremony but I decided to hang around and make a few images. I didn't bring any long glass so I just shot the second period in my assigned spot on the ice.
As a season opener, you could ask for much more. Three of the Avs top forwards, Duchene, Stewart and Stastny, all scored and the rest of the squad held their own against the defending champs.
